Charles W. “Charlie” Morgan
June 28, 1945 - December 22, 2023

Charles W. “Charlie” Morgan, 78, LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Friday, December 22, 2023 at Northwest Health-Porter, Valparaiso, Indiana.

A Memorial Service, along with full military rites, will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 30, 2023 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be held on the same date and location from 8:30 am - 11:00 am. Private family burial will take place in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana.

Charlie was born June 28, 1945 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Earl W. and Marie A. (Kieffer) Morgan. He was a 1963 graduate from Elston High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree and a master’s degree from Indiana State University. On May 30, 1970 in LaPorte, Indiana he married Diane J. (Boklund) Morgan who survives in LaPorte, Indiana; they were happily married for 53 years.   Also surviving is his son, Matthew E. (Nicole) Morgan of Carmel, Indiana; two granddaughters, Grace Morgan and Zoe Morgan; nephew, David Morgan of LaPorte; sister, Patricia (Jim) Meyers of Arizona; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Charlie was preceded in death by three sisters, Ann Vinson, Mary Morgan, and Marlene Donegan; along with two brothers, Robert J. Morgan, Sr., Marvin Morgan; and his nephew, Robert J. Morgan, Jr.

Charlie honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Army and was awarded a Purple Heart when wounded in the Vietnam War. He was a proud supporter of the VFW Post 2536, Michigan City, Indiana, and the AMVETS Post #IN-0911, Rolling Prairie, Indiana. He also participated in Honor Flight Chicago’s 108th flight to Washington, D.C. on June 14, 2023, in recognition for his service and sacrifice for our country. 

 Charlie’s career passion was as a restaurateur, having previously owned “Charlie’s,” “Pizza Down Under,” “Sumarita,” and “Town & Country,”  all in Michigan City, Indiana. He was also an active member of his community, having served on the Coolspring Township Volunteer Fire Department, participating as an active member of the Republican Party, former member and past president of the Michigan City Exchange Club, and a volunteer for the Boy Scouts of America.
