Beverley Battle Obituary

Beverley DelBigio Battle June 22, 1930- December 8, 2020

Beverley June Del Bigio Battle, 90, of Long Beach, was welcomed into eternal life on Tuesday, December 8, 2020 after a month-long battle with Covid-19.
Family was paramount in Beverley’s life; she is survived by those who love and cherish her. Her brother Ronald Del Bigio, her four children: Maureen, Colleen, Kevin, and Mary, 12 grandchildren, and soon to be 3 great grandchildren. This one-of-a-kind woman could light up any room with her infectious smile, quick-wit, and passion for life!
Beverley was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, on June 22, 1930 to Janet and Philip Del Bigio. Growing up in a traditional Italian family, her early years were spent close to her bothers, cousins, aunts, uncles, and great grandparents. She worked for her father’s family business, Del’s Electric, until she married the love of her life, Jerry Battle in 1958. They met at a Summer dance outside Winnipeg, and it was one of her favorite stories to tell the grandchildren.
Beverley and Jerry emigrated to the United States in 1959, initially to Rochester MN. In 1965 they moved to Indiana where they would call Stop 30 home, for the next 50 years. They were devoted partners for 58 years and were authentic people who shared the sheer love of life, music, dancing, curling, bridge, golf, Notre Dame games, faith, traveling, friends, and of course, family.
Beverley was always on the go and she expected those around her to keep up with her pace even at 90! She believed in honest, hard work, and she instilled that in all her children. She was an original “do it yourself” expert. Before there was Pinterest, there was Beverley June Battle! She was an avid bridge player since the age of 30 and found joy and competition in all her bridge groups both in Indiana and Florida. She had a passion for the outdoors and gardening, singlehandedly managing her garden at their stop 30 as well as the landscaping at Notre Dame Church. Beverley was committed to her community and volunteered at St. Anthony Hospital for 25years.
BB of LB loved people and could relate to those of any age; she was curious about their lives and interests. She had an impeccable memory and was a world-class storyteller. Her quick wit and attention to detail made for hours of laughter and fun around the family dinner table.
Later in life, some of Beverley’s greatest joys included her twice a day walks along the lake, coupled with visiting neighbors along the way, bridge games, dinners with friends, and visiting with family. The ultimate conclusion to her day, was meeting family and friends for the sunset and sharing a glass of wine.
This remarkable woman left a large imprint on the lives of many, and we will treasure her in our hearts forever! To celebrate this spirited woman, please include a touch of Christmas cheer in your funeral attire.

The Battle family would like to thank the staff of Franciscan Health for their care in the last month of her life.
