Bernard Herod Obituary

Bernard Anthony Herod, at 80 years of age, formerly of Michigan City, Indiana passed away on Thursday, July 29, 2021 in Cypress, Texas.  

A private family burial service was conducted in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana.  Arrangements were handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

Bernard was born in Logansport, Indiana on May 16, 1941, and was lovingly welcomed by his parents  Helen and Leo Herod.  He went to school in Westville, Indiana.   He married Sharon Pluta on September 13, 1969 at St. Stanislaus church in Michigan City, Indiana.  He worked as a program scheduler at Bethlehem Steel and retired in April 2003. Bernard is survived by his spouse, Sharon Herod, his daughter, Elizabeth Herod-Krus (Jeff Krus), and granddaughter, Abby Krus.  Bernard is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Herod, his father, Leo Herod, and his son, Brian Herod.  

Bernard loved his family and friends.  He was a very endearing man.  He was known for his hard work on his family’s farm and being his children’s biggest fan.  He was also an avid Chicago Cub’s and Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan. He served in the United States Air Force from Sept 1961 through Sept 1965 and was awarded the good conduct medal.  He was a member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451.

Bernard is survived by his spouse,Sharon Herod, his daughter, Elizabeth Herod-Krus (Jeff Krus), and granddaughter, Abby Krus.  Bernard is preceded in death by his mother, Helen Herod, his father, Leo Herod, and his son, Brian Herod.    Please remember him and the family in your prayers.
