Anita J. Piper , 89, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2026 at 2:10 am in Aperion Care - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.
There will be no visitation hours or services. Private family burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
She was born January 20, 1937 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Frank and Anita (Grinis) Groach, Sr. On February 10, 1958 in Michigan City, Indiana she married James B. Piper who preceded her in death on May 19, 2013.
Surviving are two daughters, Deborah Gerity of Huntsville, Alabama and, Sharon Stevenson of Kansas City, Kansas; five sons, Timothy (Beth) Piper of Glen Ellyn, Illinois, Michael Piper of Michigan City, Indiana, Daniel Piper of Des Plaines, Illinois, Jeffrey (Debra) Piper of Michigan City, Indiana and, Gregory Piper of Michigan City, Indiana; daughter-in-law, Jane Piper of South Carolina; 15 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; She was preceded in death by a son, Stephen Piper; son-law, Jeff Stevenson along with her brother, Frank "Sonny" Groach, Jr., who was killed in the Korean War.
Anita worked as a tissue technician for the Robert Frost, M.D. Laboratory, Michigan City, Indiana and retired quality control inspector from Parco Foods, Michigan City, Indiana.. She was a member of Mary Mother of Mercy Catholic Parish / St. Mary's, Michigan City, Indiana, VFW #2536 Women's Auxiliary and the Elks Vivians.
