October 27, 1931 - February 15, 2025 


Our angel here on earth, Alice Lillian Vernon, 93, Michigan City, Indiana, departed to join her beloved husband and maker on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 11:47 am in Addison Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center, Chesterton, IN.

Private services will be held. Burial will take place next to her husband, Dale, in Scottsburg Cemetery, Scottsburg, IN. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

She was born October 27, 1931 in Rutland, IL to the late Charles Ora and Oma "Blanche" (Umphress) Clampitt. On April 18, 1959 in Scottsburg, IN she married Dale LeRoy Vernon who preceded her in death  on February 19, 2014.

Surviving are two daughters, Lisa Vernon of Chicago, IL and Lori (David) McCoy of Michigan City, IN; two sons, Larry Vernon of The Pines, IN and Leslie (Vicki) Vernon of Otis, IN; four grandchildren, Callie, Justin, Aaron and Joshua; eight great-grandchildren; sister, Ellen Gillogly of Palm Harbor, FL; brother-in-law, John (Bev) Vernon of Seneca, IL; and many cherished and beloved nieces and nephews. She shared a very special family love with Mitzi McGlone and many others who considered her their mother and grandmother.

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Amie Clampitt, Jessie Clampitt and Evelynn Brown; and five brothers, Harvey, Donald, Jim, Junior and Clinton Clampitt.

She graduated in 1950 from Scottsburg High School, Scottsburg, IN. She worked at Montgomery Wards in the early 1960's and then went to work at Michigan City Savings and Loan  from 1970-2000 where she retired as Head Bank Teller. The Bank is where she met her closest lifetime friends. She was baptized and married at her hometown Zoah Christian Church in Scottsburg, IN. She was a Charter Member of the Westside Christian Church , which later became Village Green Christian Church. Alice was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother known for her endearing kindness. Her love for her family was felt by all. The family would like to extend special acknowledgments to the staff of Addison Pointe Health & Rehabilitation Center and to Dunes Hospice.
