Alice Kroening, 93, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, July 3, 2021 at 7:49 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, July 7, 2021 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana with  Pastor Nancy Nichols, officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana.  Visitation hours will be from 11:00 am -1:00 pm, Wednesday in the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.    

She was born May 31, 1928 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Gustav and Zelma (Fechner) Schwermer.  On May 8, 1948 in Michigan City, Indiana she married Lloyd W. Kroening, who preceded her in death on October 24, 1970.  Surviving are son, Keith (Maggi) Kroening of Fishers, Indiana; two daughters, Kim (John) BaRoss of Long Valley, New Jersey and  Kristi (James) Bingham of Holly Springs, North Carolina; Ten grandchildren, Valerie (Mike) Phillips, Kristopher (Lindsey) Kroening, Erika (Drew) Klages, Marianne (Ben McDonald) Kroening, Carolyn Hintzen, Kris BaRoss, Peyton Bingham, Jackson Bingham, Hayden Bingham and Gretchen Bingham along with 9 great-grandchildren;  Many loving and caring nieces and nephews also survive;  She was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Gardner, Ruth Hammer and a brother, Donald Schwermer;   

Alice was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Michigan City, Indiana where she also volunteered in the church soup kitchen.  She was  a long time employee with Indiana Bell Telephone as a directory/long distance operator.  She also worked as a switchboard operator at St. Anthony Hospital and then retired after 12 years as payroll clerk for Jaymar-Ruby, Michigan City, Indiana.  She was also an avid Bridge player.
