Alan M. Landing

Alan M. Landing, age 68, of LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Monday, August 16, 2021 at 2:55 pm, at Franciscan Health in Michigan City, Indiana.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
Alan was born November 10, 1952 in South Bend, Indiana to the late James and Geraldine (Kush) Landing.  On December 13, 1969 he married Laurie E. Cook in LaPorte County, Indiana. His wife of 52 years survives him.
Also surviving are one son, Jonathan (Jennifer) Landing, granddaughter Anna Elisabeth, sister Jean Landing, and brother William "Bill" Landing, all residing in Michigan City, Indiana.  He was proceeded in death by two children, Jeffrey Alan and Sarah Elizabeth, and his sister Kathleen Landing.  Also surviving are several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A special acknowledgment is given to Damon (Dina) Gasaway.  For much of Alan’s life, Damon has been a friend, confidant, and second son to Alan.  Damon always has been family in every sense of the word.  
Alan was active in the local business community for over 40 years having opened Heritage Real Estate in the late 1970s, later becoming Heritage Appraisal Service.  Alan loved his community and was involved in numerous social/community endeavors including the annual Santa Parade beginning in 1987, Zooltide, the Drum and Bugle Corps show, Food Fantasy in downtown Michigan City, and organizing neighborhood Trick-or-Treating.  Alan had a lifelong love of local sports including little league baseball, having played himself as a young boy, and an avid follower of the Elston Red Devils basketball team.  Alan also shared his life with numerous pets, including both dogs and cats.
Alan’s interests included watching the annual Little League World Series, watching Ken Burns television shows, and listening to the sound of original Motown Music. 
He enjoyed being active and was always willing to help others as best as he could. Alan will be greatly missed by his adoring wife and will remain in the hearts of many.
