Alan Howard Kroening
November 15, 1936 - January 9, 2024
Alan Howard Kroening, 87, Michigan City, Indiana, went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family, on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at 9:51 p.m. in Community Hospital, Munster, Indiana.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 13, 2024 at Evergreen Baptist Church, 2005 Coolspring Ave., Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Chris Terry officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Friday, January 12, 2024 and from 10:00 a.m. until time of service Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the church. A private burial will take place in Swan Lake Memorial Gardens, Michigan City, Indiana. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
Alan was born on November 15, 1936, in Michigan City, Indiana, to the late Howard and Florence (Lidke) Kroening. On June 25, 1960, in Michigan City, Indiana, he married Kay Lynn (Beach) Kroening, who survives in Michigan City, Indiana. Together, they cherished 63 years of marriage.
Surviving are one son, Terry Kroening of Pottstown, Pennsylvania; one daughter, Wendy Kay (Glen) Zila of Michigan City, Indiana; four grandchildren, Gregory (Dree) Kroening, Kyle (Courtney) Kroening, Ryan Zila, and Stephanie Zila; two great-grandchildren, Paisley and Rylee Kroening. He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Scott Kroening.
Alan graduated in 1955 from Elston High School, Michigan City, Indiana. He honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1959 to 1961. Alan retired as a scheduling clerk from Bethlehem Steel, working from November of 1964 to May of 2003. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church, Michigan City, for many years; past Teen Time youth group leader and current member of their senior group, Young Hearts. Alan bowled for most of his life and also enjoyed golfing, being part of a senior men golf league. He especially enjoyed traveling, and spending time and playing games with his family and friends.
