Susan Hyatte Obituary

Susan Hyatte

January 12, 1929 - May 24, 2018

Susan Hyatte, a long-time resident of Chesterton, died on May 24 in Prescott Valley, Arizona, after a brief illness. She was 89.

A native of Michigan City, she was born on January 12, 1929, to Mary and George Ziomek, both Polish immigrants. She attended St. Stanislaus Kostka School and Marquette High School, graduating in 1947.

Susan married Howard Hyatte, known to all as Hank, on May 13, 1950. Together they had three children, Michael of Chevy Chase, Maryland, Linda Mincey of Prescott Valley, Arizona, and Thomas of Mason, Michigan. Susan and Hank moved the family from Gary in 1965 to their home on South 18th Street in Chesterton, where they lived for many years. Until her retirement in 2002, she worked at the J. C. Penney store in the Marquette Mall. Her husband of forty five years died in 1995. Susan relocated to Prescott Valley in 2004, where she lived near Linda and her husband John.

In addition to her children, Susan is survived by six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Her siblings Frank Ziomek, Helen Russell, Emily Pieszchala, Adele Weasel, and John Ziomek all preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 AM on August 22, 2018, at St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish, 1506 Washington Street in Michigan City. Following Mass, Susan’s remains will be interred at St. Stanislaus Cemetery next to Hank’s in a private ceremony.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the St. Stanislaus Renaissance Campaign, 1506 Washington St., Michigan City, IN 46360.
