Patricia Steele-Dysard Obituary

Patricia K. Steele-Dysard

July 29, 1951 - June 22, 2019

Patricia K. Steele-Dysard, a life-long resident of Michigan City, floated away peacefully on Saturday morning after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Dennis Blaney officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -8:00 pm Tuesday and 10:00 am - 11:00 am Wednesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

Pat was born on July 29, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Robert Kubath and Virginia Kubath Flanigan. Her partner and husband of thirty-seven years, David A. Dysard, preceded her in death March of this year.

Pat will be remembered by her warm, big smile, generous heart, and infectious laugh. She was a faithful wife, a very dedicated and sometimes frightening mother who neither spared the rod nor spoiled the child, and an immediate friend to all those she met. Pat will be remembered by her occasionally innocent and wildly inappropriate remarks, but mostly for the many relationships she cultivated everywhere she went, waitressing at Howard’s, and in disguise as her alter-ego, "Gumdrop the Clown." For nearly thirty years, she made children and adults laugh, some cry, but mostly amazed them by her "Bipity-Bopity-Boo" magic. Gumdrop spent many summer evenings donating her time and talent to the campers at Sharing Meadows, a crowd pleaser to the big hearted audience year after year, she earned a lifetime supply of prayers and kisses from Father Blaney.

Pat loved her community and was very active in the MC Women’s Democratic Club, and enjoyed volunteering Friday nights to feed the needy at a women’s shelter.

Pat was a loyal Cubs fan right to the end, and certainly earned a "W" for her grit, resiliency and strength throughout her life. Go, Pat, Go! Go, Pat, Go!

Pat is survived by: three children, David (Donalinda) Steele of Michigan City, Julie (taking applications) Seel of Durham, North Carolina, and Stacy (Raymond) Lopez of LaPorte, Indiana; six grandchildren, Brooke, Michael, Matthew, Jack, Luke, and Elena Grace; and siblings, Danny (Kim) Kubath, Michigan City, Indiana; Brian (Nancy) Kubath of Otis, Indiana; Bobbi (Brian) Sandberg of Michigan City, Indiana; and Jeff Flanigan of Lebanon, Indiana. Even more loved, Royal Caribbean Cruise lines, and come winter, the hugely sad and deeply confused backyard squirrels who depended on her for their daily ritualistic feedings of peanut butter sandwiches.

Two dear brothers, Michael and Bruce Kubath, preceded her in death, both of Michigan City, Indiana.

Pat believed sending flowers to a funeral was just plain silly, and since clowns don’t joke, in lieu of flowers, please make memorial contributions in her honor to: The Share Foundation for the Handicapped, P.O. Box 400, Rolling Prairie, Indiana 46371.
