Karen Friend Melnick, 60, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:10 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City, Michigan City, Indiana.
A Memorial service will be held at 4:00 pm, August 20, 2017 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 102 G St., La Porte, Indiana, with Rev. Dennis Meyer officiating.
Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana 46360.
She was born June 26, 1957 in LaPorte, Indiana to the Charles and Norma (Collins) Friend. On August 21, 2011 in Michigan City, Indiana she married Samuel "Sam" Melnick who preceded her on February 25, 2017.
Surviving are Father, Charles and step-mother Lorraine Friend of Sebring, Florida; Son, Zach (Jessica) Ball of Loveland, Ohio; Grandson, Camden Ball of Loveland, Ohio; Sister-in-law, Carolyn Friend of LaPorte, Indiana; Two Nieces, Cassie (Derek) Johnson of LaPorte, Indiana and Caitlyn (Devin) Westphal of Michigan City, Indiana; Great-nephew, Charlie Johnson of LaPorte, Indiana; She was preceded in death by Mother, Norma Friend and Brother, James Friend;
Karen graduated Magna Cum Laude from Xavier University, Cincinnati, Ohio receiving her Master's Degree and then continuing her career in health care as a Nursing Home Administrator.
