Juanita Moser

July 11, 1924 - August 30, 2017

On the morning of August 30, 2017, Juanita Moser, 93, sent her final online farewells to her computer friends and family who were the recipients of her words of wisdom and humor in record-breaking long emails over the years. Her 100 words per minute typing skills were put to good use beginning in Dayton, Ohio with Air Service Command at Wright-Patterson AFB during WWII. Upon her return to Michigan City she became secretary to Warden Dowd at the Indiana State Prison. From 1948 to 1952 she served as administrative assistant to the M.C. Chief of Police with police authority to care for female prisoners. This position required her to be available 24 hours a day 7 days a week as necessary to take statements.

In 1948 she married Richard H. Moser in Michigan City, where they raised their four children: Judy Kakuris (Lee Povlock), Terry Moser (Nancy), Dan Moser (Kelly), Tom Moser (Elaine, dec'd). During those years she was employed at the Social Security Administration and Jaymar Ruby before leaving to study, briefly, at the American Academy of Art in Chicago where she explored her lifelong interest in art. She was a Cub Scout den mother, member of the M.C. Art League, and co-owner of the business her husband founded, Maple City Wholesale in LaPorte, Indiana until their retirement to Arizona. Together they danced, traveled, and enjoyed theater, musical entertainment and local summer activities. She even attended a few football games at Notre Dame knowing it would please Dad, especially when they won. Above all they loved being with family and gifting us with some pretty spectacular holiday affairs. We never tired of hearing her ask "Have you eaten yet?" and "I just made a batch of peanut butter fudge and vegetable soup!" -- her specialties. If she could have found a way to put Lewis Carroll's poem Beautiful Soup to music, it would have been the doorbell tune.

Juanita Isabelle Roth was born to Wesley Phillip Roth and Ethel B. Roth (Stephens) in Warrick County, Indiana. She was the youngest and final survivor of seven children: Mildred G., Gilbert R., Carl Wesley, Ruby O., Beulah M. (Charles Quinn), Ralph Edward. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Paul Jason ("PJ") Kakuris, Kristina Cosley (John), Annalisa Povlock (Lance), Eric Moser (Gabrielle), Amy Bitner (Bryan), Wesley Moser-Summers (Jenn Summers), and a bunch of equally precious great-grandchildren who may have inherited her artistic talent, love of music, quick wit, old sayings, master chef skills and fast fingers.

Our family thanks the caring, patient, and dedicated women of Brentwood in LaPorte and Dunes Hospice, as well as Dr. Fletcher and his staff. A family Celebration of Life at Swan Lake Memorial Gardens is being planned. Please visit Ott/Haverstock Funeral Home website for memories and photos. Donations in her memory to Worthy Women Recovery Home, P.O. Box 116, LaPorte, Indiana 46350 www.worthyrecovery.org/donate.html/ or Sharing Meadows, P.O. Box 400, Rolling Prairie, Indiana 46371 www/sharefoundation.org/donations-giving/ would be accepted with lasting gratitude.

As she always signed off: God bless.
