Joseph A. Gatz, 76, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at 11:44 am in Franciscan Health - Michigan City.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12:00 pm, Friday, April 26, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Buffalo & 10th Streets, Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery with full military services conducted. Visitation will be from 9:30 am - 11:30 am, Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN.

He was born January 18, 1943 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Richard and Bernardine (LaBerge) Gatz. On October 12, 1996 in Michigan City, IN he married Melodie Henrichs who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are two daughters, Wendy Drummond of Gahanna, OH and Amy Gatz of Stevensville, MI; son, Adam (Lori) Gatz of Sawyer, MI; two step-daughters, Janet Pischke of Spring, TX and Julie (Al) Sales of Kingwood, TX; two step-sons, Jeff Tanksley of Kingsbury, IN and John Tanksley of Bardstown, KY; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and his brother, Richard Gatz of Rolling Prairie, IN.

Joseph retired as an electrician with several of the area I.B.E.W. Locals and was a U.S. Navy Veteran. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Moose Family Center 980 and a volunteer at St. Mary's Thrift Shop. Joseph enjoyed fishing, jewelry making and electronics.
