Hazel Jean Schlicker, 90, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Thursday, June 27, 2019 at 10:35 am in , Michigan City, Indiana.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Tuesday, July 2, 2019 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church , 818 Franklin St. , Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours Tuesday from 12:00 pm till the time of service at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Arrangements are being handled by the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.

She was born June 9, 1929 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Claude E. and Evelyn A.(Solner) Hatfield. On September 15, 1951 in Michigan City, Indiana she married James Schlicker who preceded her in death on June 16, 2006. Surviving is a daughter, Susan Schlicker, along with several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brother, Eugene C. Hatfield along with two sisters, Carol Boothroyd and Joan Gumms.

A graduate of Michigan City Elston High School, she went on to become a business woman, having worked at St. Anthony Hospital as an executive secretary for many years. Hazel was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Michigan City, where she served in many leadership roles. In her younger years she taught Sunday school and was greatly involved in the Women of the church, both at the local,state and national level. Community wise, she was a member of the Business and Professional Women and volunteered after retirement at the Service League and the gift shop at the hospital. Hazel and her late husband Jim were very much involved in the Miss Indiana Pageants which were held for many years in Michigan City in the 1960's - 1970's.
