Eugene L. "Gene" Hayman, 79, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, February 1, 2019 at 1:40 pm in his home.

A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am, Tuesday, February 12, 2019 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Monday and from 9:00 am - 10:00 am Tuesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

He was born January 13, 1940 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Leo and Jean (Kozek) Hayman. On November 26, 1977 in Illinois he married Sandra "Sandy" Heraty who survives in Michigan City, IN. They were married for 41 years.

Also surviving are four children, Cathryn S. (Randy) Dibble of Michigan City, IN, Gregg (Tricia) Hayman of Michigan City, IN, Pam (David) Schena of South Bend, IN and Stacy (Charles) O'Neal of Rolling Prairie, IN; thirteen grandchildren, Brandon (Angie) Cooper, Sarrah Davis, Taylor (Rob Pease) VanSickle, Leah Hayman, Bryce Hayman, Brayden Hayman, David Schena, II, Colleen Schena, Spencer Padgett, Sadie Padgett, Jeremy (LeeAnn) Dibble, Blake O'Neal and Alexa Odle; five great-grandchildren, Harlow June Davis, Austyn Cooper, Dexter Dibble, Jack Pease and Kaycee Pease; brother, David (Edar) of Kentucky; two sisters, Rita and Louann, both of Michigan City, IN; numerous nieces and nephews; and his best buddy, Dusty Dawg.

He was a graduate of Elston High School, a veteran of the U.S. Army National Guard and a member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451. Gene was a longtime employee of Arno Tape, Michigan City Plastics and served the community as a member of the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and spending time with his family especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
