Eleanor L. Nickell, 89, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 2:00 am in her home.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, March 9, 2018 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. William O'Toole officiating. Visitation will be from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm, Friday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

She was born February 28, 1929 in LaPorte, Indiana to the late Frank and Sheila (Jendrzejak) Teets. In September of 1949 in Michigan City, IN she married Rodger Nickell who preceded her on August 25, 2012.

Surviving are a son, Larry L. (Suzie) Nickell of Fish Lake, IN; daughter, Pamela (Dan) Morgan of LaPorte, IN; four grandchildren, Chadwick N. (Elizabeth) Eaton of Illinois, Sara Nickell Spearing of Colorado, Nicole Eaton of LaPorte, IN and Scout Nickell of Mill Creek, IN; and five great-grandchildren.

She was also preceded in death by granddaughter, Laura Pfeiffle; sister, Ramona Bendix; and brothers, Clarence and Norman Teets.

Eleanor served as Matron of the LaPorte County Sheriff's Department. Her passions included fishing, reading, cooking, playing bridge and poker. In her younger years she was an accomplished athlete having played basketball and semi pro softball. Eleanor cherished her home, property and the wildlife surrounding it.
