Dorothy Mae Gardner

December 3, 1922 - October 14, 2019

Dorothy Mae Gardner, 96, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Monday, October 14, 2019 at 4:30 pm in her home in Michigan City, Indiana.

Funeral Services will be held at a later date. Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel will be handling arrangements.

She was born December 3, 1922 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Gustave A. and Zelma H.(Fechner) Schwermer. On July 27, 1947 in Michigan City, IN she married Harold Authur Gardner who preceded her in death in June of 1981

Surviving are four daughters, Gloria Fredenburg of La Porte, IN, Doreene (Dale) Gaustad of Covington, GA, Elaine (Mark) Morris of South Bend, IN, Jeanne (Wayne) Horn of Olathe, KS; sister, Alice Kroening of Michigan City, IN; three grandchildren, Michelle Steinke, Luke Fredenburg, Jacob Fredenburg and one great-granddaughter, Terra Hitzing. She was preceded in death by her father, Gustave A. Schwermer; mother, Zelma H. Schwermer; sister, Ruth Hammer, and brother Donald Schwermer.

Dorothy served in the United States Navy. She was a member of the Eastern Star and a life long member of the First United Methodist Church of Michigan City. Dorothy enjoyed attending church, gardening, taking long walks, taking trips to the beach, spending time at the Senior Center, reading the bible, and most of all spending time with her family.
