Chester H. Box, 91, Trail Creek, Indiana , passed away Monday, September 17, 2018 at 6:40 pm in his home.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, September 24, 2018 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Bill Barnes officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation hours will be from 2:00 pm -6:00 pm, Sunday, September 23, 2018 and from 9:00 am until time service Monday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted Monday in Greenwood Cemetery.

He was born February 5, 1927 in Bedford, Indiana to the late Cleveland and Ida (Wood) Box. In 1949 he married Geraldine Sullivan, who preceded him in 1984. In 1987 he married Sylvia Sanders, who preceded him in 1997 and in 2001 he partnered with Jean Wagner, who preceded him in 2015. Surviving are two sons, Kevin Box of Michigan City, Indiana and Gregory Box of Shelbyville, Kentucky; six grandchildren, Joshua Box, Julia Delmont, Jacob Box, Jeff Box, Cindi Hartley and Brian Box; nine great-grandchildren, Jessica Box, Kellie Box, Christina Hartley, Katelyn Hartley, Joseph Hartley, Noah Moore, Naomi Moore, Levi Box and Aubriella Aquino; He was preceded in death by five brothers, Emmitte, Paul, Robert, Warren and Rodney Box along with three sisters, Ava, Ethel and Roberta;

Chester retired after more than 35 years from NIPSCO. He was a member of the VFW Post 2536, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and the FOP Dunes Lodge #75. He enjoyed his daily trips to sign the book at each of these clubs and especially enjoyed his Thursday poker game.
