My condolences to the families left behind. He sounds like a fun guy to have been around. I'm sorry I did not know him, but now I know where Matt's sarcasm and humor come from! It sounds like he lived a good life and left you with good memories.

I remember Carl very well as my baseball manager and mentor for the Michigan City Saints during 1969-71 at Ames Field. I especially remember Carl taking our team to the Michigan City State Prison for a game against the inmates. Many good times followed every game at his Dad's bar. My sincerest honor was mine just knowing Carl and remembering his wonderful friendship and leadership in the world of baseball. He loved the game very much. "Carl, I know you are managing a team in Heaven - hitting home runs everyday!" Bless you and your family.

We shared a love for the game of baseball that brought us together at Elston and Ames Field. We will never forget Swenson's wit, humor, and love for us and the game. Anyone that got the privilege of Swens' wisdom, attention, and occasional wrath....is a better person for it today. God Bless you Carl Swenson.

Matt & Pam, I thought i'd be able to review the submission.
It is with a heavy heart that we learn of your dad's passing.
He was so good to all of us kids as we started to learn to play and get to spend precious time with him and his sense of humor, He always was upbeat and fun.
There was no one like him. He will be missed by many. So sorry for your loss.

I got to know Carl as having the honor of being a batboy for the Saints. It was awesome.! He had me "pass the Hat" in the 5th inning at Ames Field. We needed funds. I had the pleasure of being around so many great guys and learn more about the game. Swede taught many of us how to keep score. Then in Jr. Leagues he taught us how to cut the bases. Set up & make a throw to a base. Push a bunt. On many of first hits he'd yell it looked like you hit that with the Wave, the tiny weekly paper.! He was funny and did Keep us all Loose. Later playing for the Saints he was a very good tactical Mgr. He was glad to play at Ames field but we did enjoy the LaPorte Sportsman, the Chcago Sun Dodgers, the NY Grays barnstorming team and Donkey baseball, against the Indianapolis Clowns.?? Yes Floor hockey at the Naval Armory was a winter highlight Joe mentioned. So many fond memories with Carl. He was a heck of a mentor. I think he gave much more than he took. Respected, loved and honored. Scott

Most of my fondest memories are of playing baseball and Swede was such an important part of that experience. There are two people who come to mind when speaking of Michigan City baseball (Swede and Skip) and now both have left us. However, both have left us with such a passion for the game and wonderful building blocks for future generations to come. Everyone who played for Carl (none of us called him by his name) has a story that constantly reminds us of his love for the game, the innocence of such a wonderful team sport and the importance of family. I miss you Swede and my most sincerest and deepest sympathies to you Pam and Matt and your families.

What a great man. Taught me how to play the game right. Had the privelege of learning to call the game from behind the plate from him. "Give me a dip, ya asshole".

Words cannot express how much this man has meant to me. He has always been there for me and I'll miss him so much. He was truly one of a kind in every aspect of life and my heart hurts so much but as Carl would say "rub a little dirt on it". I will always "Keep Loose" and remember him fondly with so many great memories. I was truly blessed to have him in my life. Take it easy my friend and mentor, I love you.

Carl along with my father were two of the most formative men in my life. I played for the MC Saints and Sinners from 1965 thru 1968. I was 17 to 20 years old and new very little about life. Carl taught me baseball and about life. He, Bob Post and Paul Michaels brought me from adolecences to manhood. It was one of the best times of my life Rest in Peace coach and thanks for all you did. I will never forget you!

Pam, Kevin, Chase and Cade. The Edwards’ have you in our thoughts and prayers. Swenson was an amazing ambassador for the game. I still can see him on steps of Ames field dugout calling someone a “candy ass’. Love to be a part of the celebration. All the best. Mike

Swens was undeniably my favorite coach and mentor of the game of baseball. I always enjoyed his stories and truly appreciated his help coaching my travel teams. I’ll always remember his profanity laced tirades in between double headers at Ames Field. He was a very generous teacher of the game we both loved. I could go on on.... He will be missed dearly.
