Mrs. Betty Alice Joiner, age 82, transitioned Tuesday the 25th of June at Wellstar Cobb Hospital, in Austell, Georgia.
Born November 24, 1936 in Michigan City, IN., she was the daughter of Louis and Velma (Love) Taylor. Betty confessed her faith in Christ at an early age. She was a member of Jackson Memorial Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA under the leadership of Rev. Dr. Gregory Sutton, where she served on the mother’s board. She was also the First Lady of The Canvasing for Christ Outreach Ministry under the leadership of Pastor Gilbert R. Bush, Sr.
Betty was educated in the Michigan City area school system.
Betty worked at the LaPorte County Health Department and the YMCA until her retirement, followed by her move to Atlanta, Georgia in 2000.
Betty loved the Lord! She also relished in good food and socializing. She enjoyed watching movies, long talks with friends and family, was an EXPERT in shopping for the finer things in life, and had a wonderful smile that could light up a room.
She is survived by her children Robert Hogan Jr. (Ellease) of Michigan City, IN, Rev. Donald Hogan (Geneva) of Madison, WI, Elder Lonnie Hogan (Debra) of Merriville, IN, Peggy Howard of Powder Springs, GA, Rev. Gilbert Bush of Douglasville, GA, and Rodney Joiner of Mableton, GA, 19 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren, her sister Sandra (Deotis) Bureau of Michigan City, IN, sister-in-laws Geraldine Taylor of South Bend, IN, Ethel Lee Taylor of Michigan City, IN, god- sons Larry Taylor, Ramsey Mitchell, Cornell Davis, Tony Lucas, Jerry Lucas, Andre Evans, and Paris Beasey, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends; all that brought great joy to her over the years.
She was proceeded in death by her parents, Louis and Velma Taylor; her husband Rev. James Richard Joiner; her brothers, Louis Taylor Jr., Donald Taylor, Rev. Dorsey Taylor, Alvoid Taylor, Charles Taylor, and Calvin Taylor; her sisters, Emma Thorpe, Dorothy Mitchell, and Ethel Townsend, grandson Lonnie Hogan Jr., god-daughters Diane George and Gail Holt, and her dog Spunkie; whom she loved dearly.
Viewing will be Wednesday, July 3, 2019 from 10:00 AM until 10:45 AM at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church 123 Helen St. Michigan City, IN.
The Celebration of Life will follow at 11:00 AM with Elder Lonnie Hogan officiating. Burial will be held immediately after services at Greenwood Cemetery. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
