James P. Orzech, Sr., 78, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 11:00 am in his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Richard Pawlak officiating. Private burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 pm -7:00 pm, Tuesday and from 10:00 am - 11:00 am Wednesday at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel.

He was born June 13, 1939 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Walter A. and Marian B.(Reynolds) Orzech. On October 29, 1960 in Michigan City, IN he married Corrine J. Mayer who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are five sons, Greg Orzech of Michigan City, IN, James Orzech, Jr. of South Bend, IN, Michael (Nicole) Orzech of Trail Creek, IN, Robert (Pamela) Orzech of Michigan City, IN and Walter (Sherri) Orzech of Michigan City, IN; eight grandchildren, Natalie Ansell, Cassandra (Seth) Campion, Olivia (Mandy) Davis, Donald Orzech, Matthew Orzech, Mitchell Orzech, Nicklaus Orzech and Andrew Orzech; and his great-grandson, Nolan Campion.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Arlene Schultz; and brother, Eugene Orzech.

James retired in 1982 after 20 years as a firefighter with the Michigan City Fire Department and then retired in 2002 from the maintenance department of Trans-Apparel (Jaymar-Ruby). He was a U.S. Marine Corps Veteran and a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Joseph Young Men's Society, American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and the DAV Chapter #23. James enjoyed golfing, spending winters in Florida and being with his family and friends.
