Vaughn Rebbeck, 94, LaPorte, Indiana, passed away Friday, March 24, 2017 at 8:25 am in his home.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am, Saturday, April 8, 2017 at Bethel Chapel, 2805 N. State Road 39, LaPorte, IN. Private burial took place in Greenwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until service time Saturday at Bethel Chapel. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
He was born September 21, 1922 in Michigan City, Indiana to the late Helen Rebbeck.
Surviving are several cousins.
He was also preceded in death by his life long partner and business associate, Leon Tuttle.
Vaughn retired in 1986 as a master upholsterer for Modern Trend Furniture, Grand Beach, MI. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II 158th Infantry where he received numerous medals for having been involved with campaigns including Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, Central Europe and the Battle of the Bulge. He was a LaPorte County Folk Artist, curator of Skookum Ghost Town, 10766 400 N., Michigan City IN, a 2013 Honor Flight Alumni and a volunteer for North Central Community Action Agencies Inc and at the George and Madeline Smrt Neighborhood Center. Vaughn was a member of the American Legion Skwiat Post 451 and as also knighted with the French Legion of Honor.
