Susan D. Sandberg , 63, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Friday, January 20, 2017 at 7:55 am in her home.
A private family celebration of life will take place at a later date. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.
She was born April 17, 1953 in Elwood, Indiana to Dale and Betty (Gooding) McCord . On October 1, 1979 in Michigan City, IN she married Richard Sandberg who survives in Michigan City, IN.
Also surviving are two daughters, Christy Sandberg of Valparaiso, IN and Kimberly (Jerry Jr. ) Fogus of Valparaiso, IN; three sons, Richard J. (Paulette) Sandberg of North Judson, IN, Brett A. (Troy) Sandberg of Nashville, TN and Brian A. (Bobbi) Sandberg of Michigan City, IN; three grandchildren, Jessi, J.R. and Dale; two nieces, Rebecca Locke and Rachel (Jeremiah) Jackson; and three great-nieces, Willa, RaeAnne and Judith.
She was preceded in death by her father, Dale McCord; mother, Betty Albright; and her sister, Judy Locke.
Susan was a elementary school teacher at LaPorte Community Schools where she taught students with special needs, and later as an art teacher. She was previously a millwright at Bethlehem Steel and was quite crafty and relished in repurposing discarded items to make them useful again. Susan viewed life as an adventure and made it her quest to share this philosophy with family, especially her grandchildren. Her goal was to give them experiences they wouldn't otherwise have.
