Ronald S. Ponicki, 77, Westville, Indiana, passed away Thursday, November 12, 2015 at 10:20 am in his home.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, November 17, 2015 at St. Andrew the Apostle Parish, 768 Lincoln Ave, Calumet City, IL with Rev. Jack Dada officiating. Burial will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Calumet City, IL. Visitation will be from 3:00 pm -8:00 pm, Monday the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St. Michigan City, IN. A prayer service will be conducted at 5:00 pm Monday in the funeral chapel.
He was born April 16, 1938 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Joseph and Eleanore (Fleming) Ponicki. On September 30, 1961 in Calumet City, IL he married Mary Lou Ulias who survives in Westville, IN.
Surviving are a daughter, Mindy Ponicki of Westville, IN; three grandchildren, Brandon, Collin and Ian; three sister-in-laws, Pat (the late Gene) Dilbo of Arizona, Phyllis (Casey) Paliga of Lansing, IL and Bonnie Ponicki of Lansing, IL; best friend and neighbor, Wayne Degarmo of Westville, IN; cousin and caregiver, Donna Milly of Crown Point, IN; and best buddies, Lilly and nurse Daisy.
He was also preceded in death by his son, Todd Ponicki; and brother, Richard Ponicki.
Ron retired after 42 years as a computer operator at Cargill and was a U.S. Army Veteran. He was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. The family would like to extend a special acknowledgement to Dr. Kumar, Mindy and all of those associated with VNA Hospice, Valparaiso, IN for their support.
