Richard L. Schumaker, 78, La Porte, Indiana, passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at 12:14 am at his home in, La Porte, IN.

Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Queen of All Saints Catholic Church, 606 S. Woodland Ave., Michigan City, IN with Rev. Kevin Huber officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -8:00 pm, Tuesday, November 24, 2015 and from 8:30 am - 9:30 am Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN.

He was born May 24, 1937 in Michigan City, IN to the late Richard Edward and Rose Francis (Meyer) Schumaker. On July 14, 1962 in St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Michigan City, IN he married Janice (Pavlack) Schumaker who survives in La Porte, IN.

Also surviving are Three Sons, Jeffery (Nancy) Schumaker of Lafayette, IN, Dennis Schumaker of La Porte, IN, Brian (Jamie) Schumaker of Elephant Butte, NM; Daughter, Sheri (James) Hipskind of Granger, IN; 7 - Grandchildren; 1 - Great Grandchild; Several Nieces and Nephews. He was preceded in death by both his parents and sister, Dolores Waite.

Richard retired as a self-employed carpenter. He was a member of Queen of All Saints Catholic Church and was a member of the Hoosier Cruisers. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his lawn, woodcarving, and camping.
