Mary Lou Meell, 85, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017. She was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Robert and Ursula Hill. On July 25, 1953 she married Joseph T. Meell, Jr. who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Kathy (Terry) Davidson of Phoenix, Arizona, Lisa (Dave) Albers of Michigan City and one son, Greg (Lana) Meell of Phoenix, Arizona: Seven grandchildren, Alysse Grubbs, Lindsay Say, Chloe Davidson, David Albers, Ben Albers, Carli Albers and Cheney Meell: Five great-grandchildren also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother, Robert Hill and one sister, Margaret Decker.

Mary Lou was a member of Notre Dame Catholic Church, a lifetime member of Service League of Michigan City, a board member of the Samaritan Center and a member of P.E.O., Meals on Wheels, Right to Life and volunteered and all the school grades her children attended. She received her nursing degree from the University of Pittsburgh in 1952. Mary Lou’s nursing career spanned many years working in hospitals, doctor’s offices, skilled nursing facilities and school nursing. Her favorite position was being the school nurse at LaLumiere High School. Mary Lou also loved fashion and worked for La Grande Trunk, a woman’s clothing store, where she loved helping women find that perfect fit, style or gift. During both careers, along with her many volunteer activities Mary Lou was always about helping people feel good. Her deepest, truest gifts were the love, friendship, unparalleled culinary talents and wise medical advice she gave so generously.

Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, July 22, 2017 at Notre Dame Church, 1010 Moore Road, Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Keith McClellan officiating. Private family internment will take place at a later date. Family and friends will be received Saturday from 9:30-11:00 am in the vestibule of Notre Dame Church. Arrangements are being handled by Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel. Please celebrate Mary Lou’s love of fashion and wear your favorite outfit
