Leon M. Kosakowski, 83, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, August 5, 2017 at 12:30 am in his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am Friday, August 11, 2017 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, IN with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Private burial will take place in St. John Kanty Cemetery, Rolling Prairie, IN. Visitation will be from 9:30 am until Mass time Friday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

He was born December 8, 1933 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Leo and Florence (Jozwiak) Kosakowski. On June 18, 1960 in Rolling Prairie, Indiana he married his dancing partner and the love of his life Jeanette L. Stanish to whom he was married to for 57 years who survives in Michigan City, IN.

Also surviving are a daughter, Teresa Stoll of Michigan City, Indiana; three sons, Gregory Kosakowski, Leon J. (Lynnette) Kosakowski and Christopher Kosakowski, all of Michigan City, Indiana; and eight grandchildren, Erik Stoll, Matthew Stoll, Nathan Lloyd, Amanda Kosakowski, Jessica Kosakowski, Joseph Kosakowski, Seth Kosakowski and Samuel Kosakowski.

He was also preceded in death by his sister, Mary Lou Prybylla.

Leon retired after 42 years as an electric dispatcher at NIPSCO and was a U.S. Army Veteran of the 10th Mountain Division. He was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, Phi Delta Kappa Fraternity, United Polka Association and the St. Joseph Young Men's Society. Leon was an avid polka dancer, enjoyed golfing, donated blood and was a volunteer for meals on wheels. He loved his family and grandchildren.
