Jeffrey P. Podgorski, 53, Portage, Indiana, passed away Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 1:16 pm in Community Hospital, Munster, Indiana.
Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10:00 am, Monday, March 12, 2018 at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, 1506 Washington Street, Michigan City, Indiana with Rev. Walter Ciesla officiating. Burial will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana with full police and military services. Visitation hours will be from 2:00 pm -8:00 pm, Sunday, March 11, 2018 and from 8:30 am till 9:30 am at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana.
He was born June 30, 1964 in South Bend, Indiana to Gerald and Norma (Weishaupt) Podgorski, who survive Portage, Indiana. On June 15, 1991 in Michigan City, Indiana he married Debra(Wilson) Podgorski, Portage, Indiana. Also surviving are son, James Podgorski of West Lafayette, Indiana; Two brothers, Mark (Marisa) Podgorski of Goshen, Indiana and Christopher Podgorski of Tampa, Florida; Nieces, Laura (Alan) Ibarra, Sophie Podgorski, Anna Podgorski, Allison Podgorski and Rebecca Podgorski; Three nephews, Andrew (Shannon) Podgorski, Alex Podgorski, Patrick Podgorski; two special-cousins, Matthew Podgorski, and Beth Hesterman along with many other cousins, aunts uncles. He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Norman Wilson.
Jeffrey was a graduate of St. Joseph College, Rensselaer, Indiana . He was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, Valparaiso, Indiana and former member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church where he attended as a child. For the past 29 years was a police officer with the City of Portage, Indiana and presently was assigned to the detective division. Being a gun enthusiast he owned DJ's Guns Gunsmithing, Portage, Indiana. He served with the Indiana National Guard where his unit was deployed to Desert Storm during the Gulf War. He was a member of the American Legion Post 502, South Haven, Indiana, FOP #145, Portage, Indiana. He grew up as a Boy Scout with Troop 876 Queen of all Saints Catholic Church and then continued as scout master for many years with troop #452. He was a NASCAR fan and avid Green Bay Packer fan.
