Elizabeth M. "Libby" Rogers, age 95, Michigan City, passed away January 13, 2017 at 7:31 a.m. in Franciscan Health, Michigan City, Indiana. Mrs. Rogers requested that her body be donated to medical science.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. John's United Church of Christ, 101 St. John Road, Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor William Fine officiating. Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. -1:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21, 2017 at St. John's United Church of Christ. The Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, IN is handling arrangements.

Surviving are a daughter, Marietta Rogers, Michigan City; son, Douglas (Karen) Rogers, Hudson, IN; granddaughter, Krista Culp, Daleville, IN; grandson, Brian (Amber) Rogers, Bryan, OH; three great-grandchildren Emma Culp, Leon Culp, and Lydia Rogers. Mrs. Rogers retired as a secretary at the Westville Correctional Center.

Mrs. Rogers was born February 1, 1921 in the Toledo District, British Honduras, Central America (now Belize), the daughter of James and Eula (Hartley) Mason. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister and brothers - Eula Clyde, James, Frank, Harry, Eugene, and Felix Mason. When she was 13 years old, the family emigrated to the United States, and settled in Knoxville, TN. At the age of 18, Elizabeth became a U.S. citizen. In Knoxville, TN on August 31, 1944, she married Robert Rogers who preceded in 1999. In 1949, Libby Rogers became a minister’s wife when Rev. Rogers was ordained as a minister. She was a loving mother to her children. She was a supportive wife, helping Rev. Rogers in his parish ministry and chaplaincy.

As a member at St. John's United Church of Christ, Libby led Bible studies, a prayer group, and hosted a youth group. Libby never met a stranger. She loved her family and friends. She would reach out to everyone with kind words and prayer. As a volunteer tutor in the Michigan City Library, Libby helped some Chinese restaurant workers learn English. She loved reading the Bible and Christian books. When her Alzheimer’s worsened and she went to a care facility, Libby was always on the move in her wheel chair. She would reach out to the other residents, and give the staff back rubs.
Throughout her life Libby was kind and sweet. She loved and served God, and touched many lives.
