David L. Tubbs Sr., 68, Michigan City, Indiana, passed away Saturday, January 16, 2016 at 8:50 pm in Franciscan St. Anthony Health - Michigan City, IN.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Life Temple Church of God in Christ, 3709 West US Highway 20, Michigan City, IN with Pastor Robert Fleming officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 pm -9:00 pm, Friday, January 22, 2016 and from 10:00 am until service time Saturday, January 23, 2016 at Life Temple Church of God in Christ. Private family burial will be held at a later date at Evergreen Memorial Park in Hobart, IN.

He was born March 21, 1947 in Gary, IN to the late Theodore and Ernestine (Hodges) Tubbs-Taylor.

Surviving are ex-wife, Patricia Rodriguez; three sons, Jason Tubbs of Orlando, FL, David Tubbs, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, and Delane Tubbs of Schererville, IN; two daughters, Angelita Nash of Indianapolis, IN, and Letitia Ferguson of Gary, IN; two sisters, Sharon Taylor of Gary, IN, and Valarie Adams of Fort Worth, TX; 12-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by both his parents and his two brothers, Robert Tubbs, Sr. and Theodore Taylor, Jr.

David retired from E. J. & E. Railroad after 41 years as a switchman foreman. He worked for E. J. & E. in the Gary Mill Yard division of U.S. Steel where he also served as a safety director. He was a member of Life Temple Church of Christ serving in many roles at the church including, deacon, first assistant armor bearer, youth director, program director, and bible study teacher. He helped organize and sang with the Melody Aires; he also sang with Bishop J. C. Tidwell & Exousia. He managed the A-Team softball team in Michigan City and coached several little league baseball teams and pee-wee hoops teams. He was instrumental in organizing sporting associations in northwest Indiana, serving as an assistant director for both the National Softball Association (NSA) and for IC Little League baseball.
