Betty Lou Humelsheim Penfold, 90, Mishawaka, Indiana, formerly of Michigan City, Indiana passed away Friday, September 29, 2017 at 9:23 am in Hospice House of South Bend, South Bend, Indiana

Funeral Services will be conducted Tuesday, October 3, 2017 at 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 818 Franklin St., Michigan City, Indiana with Pastor Mark Reshan officiating. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery, Michigan City, Indiana. Visitation hours will be Monday from 5:00pm till 7:00 pm at the Ott/Haverstock Funeral Chapel, 418 Washington St., Michigan City, Indiana and Tuesday from 10:00 am till 11:00 am at St. Paul Lutheran Church.

She was born March 10, 1927 in Rocky Ford, Colorado to the late Frank and Betty(Wolber) Richardson Powers. On June 11, 1949 in Michigan City, Indiana she married Richard L. Humelsheim, who preceded her in death on October 21, 1976. On July 16, 1978 in Michigan City, Indiana she then married Charles A. Penfold, Sr., who preceded her also on May 22, 2001.

Surviving are Three Daughters, Catherine (Dennis) Kienitz of Mishawaka, Indiana, Karen Bammer of Everettville, Washington, Daryl Penfold of Michigan City, Indiana; Three Sons, Richard (Jan) Humelsheim of Michigan City, Indiana, Lawrence Humelsheim of Bullhead City, Arizona, Charles A. (Cindy) Penfold Jr. of Avon, Indiana; Daughter-in-law, Juliet Penfold of Michigan City, Indiana; Cindy Humelsheim, Michigan City, Indiana. 13 Grandchildren; 13 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren; Brother, Robert "Sonny" Powers of Michigan City, Indiana; She was preceded in death by Son, Steven Penfold; Two Son-in-laws, Mike Bammer, Harold McGill and Second Father, Lee Richardson

Betty graduated from Macon, Missouri High School and received her Master's Degree in education from Indiana University South Bend. She spent 21 years teaching 4th & 5th grades at Queen of all Saints School. Then taught for 11 years with the Michigan City School System at Niemann School. Betty was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Michigan City, Indiana. She also was a member of the Women's Circle Group at St. Paul. She was a member of two different bridge clubs in Mishawaka and Michigan City, Indiana. Betty enjoyed golfing, quilting and Bowling. Formerly was a member of the Women of the Moose and the Vivians of the Elks Lodge, Michigan City. She enjoyed many things in her life, but nothing meant more than her love for her family.
